The signal for help campaign

Social isolation measures have made it increasingly difficult for survivors of violence to safely reach out for help.

The Signal for Help Campaign is a one-handed sign that an individual can use on a video call to silently indicate that they need help and would like someone to check in on them safely.

Check in with the person safely.

Call them and ask them to answer in “yes” or “no” statements.

Examples

Would you like me to call 9-1-1?
Would you like me to call a shelter on your behalf?

Use another mode of communication, such as WhatsApp/text and ask general questions.

Examples

How are you doing?
Get in touch with me when you can?

The following are suggestions NOT recommendations on how to navigate such situations.

ALWAYS CALL 911 IF YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK.
