Globally 243 million women and girls ages 15-29 have been subjected to sexual and/or physical violence perpetrated by an intimate partner in the previous 12 months.
Almost 18 per cent of women and girls aged 15 to 49 years who have ever been in a relationship have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner in the previous 12 months.
30 per cent of women and girls aged 15 to 49 years have experienced violence by a partner experienced during their lifetime.
More than a third of women who are intentionally killed are killed by a current or former intimate partner.
Less than 40 percent of women who experience violence seek help of any sort.
Less than 10 percent of women who experience violence seek help from the police.
The global cost of violence against women and girls (public, private and social) is estimated at US$1.5 trillion.
